The Shire of Coolgardie in partnership with Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre and Gold Fields are proud to recommence the delivery of a fortnightly mental health service to the Kambalda Community.
The service will be provided through the Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre, a not-for-profit organisation with experienced counsellors who have been operating in the region for over 35 years.
From February 2021 until 30 November 2021 the service saw 52 appointments made providing help to both men and women from as young as 16 up to 71. People were assisted with a range of issues such as stress and anxiety around major life changes, relationship break ups, grief and loss, career burn out, depression, sexual assault and the personal impact of COVID-19.
The service has assisted greatly in not only providing support to Kambalda residents but also allowing them to stay in their local environment and not having to travel.
“I have often put off these types of appointments because I needed to travel into Kalgoorlie and would have had to take my children with me. Being able to have a face-to-face appointment in Kambalda and being able to take my little one with me made it so much easier to get the help I needed,” said a recipient of the service. The partnership is the first of its kind in the Goldfields and will provide a local focus on supporting people’s health and wellbeing.
“The Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre is pleased to be able to continue its counseling service to the Kambalda Community in 2022. We are thrilled with the Shire of Coolgardie and Gold Fields partnership, which allows us to be an active provider in Kambalda seeing clients in their local environment and not have to travel into Kalgoorlie-Boulder. We have on occasions conducted pick-ups and home visits, and will continue to do so. I am so very pleased that Sam Bell is able to share her knowledge. Her area of expertise is complex trauma, which will bring a new resource to our existing counselling service.” said CEO, Gloria Moyle. All counselling sessions will be private and confidential, and clients will be encouraged to contribute to the service depending on their ability to pay. If able, people can also pay a little extra to “pay if forward” to help another person. For more information or to book an appointment please click here
