Council is pleased to be successful in securing $150,000 from the Victorian Government to undertake Stage 1 of the Colac Deans Creek Growth Corridor Outline Development Plan. The funding is from the Victorian Planning Authority’s Streamlining for Growth program.
“The plan is a key to unlocking future rezoning of land in the growth areas identified along Deans Creek in the Colac 2050 Growth Plan,” said Ian Seuren, GM Development and Community Services, “and will identify the location of key roads, drainage infrastructure, public open space, active transport links and limited new retail facilities to service the new growth expected in Colac.”
The grant will be added to $225,000 funding set aside by Council in the 2021/22 budget for this project.
Council has made a start on establishment of the project team and governance structures, with the intention of commencing the engagement of suitable consultants to undertake technical studies for the plan over the coming months.
Commencement of this plan complements the existing planning work by Council to support rezoning processes at two sites in Elliminyt, and finalisation of a Development Plan at Colac West adjoining the former High School site. Progress is being made on all of these initiatives.
Council has also recently issued a permit for a 26-lot subdivision in Talbot Street, Colac, which will provide more housing options for the region.
“Colac continues to attract strong interest as a place to live following completion of the Princes Highway duplication and the COVID pandemic,” said Mr Seuren, “and it is great to be making progress in achieving more land for housing.”
