Shire of York President Cr Denese Smythe has expressed her deep sadness on the passing of Gordon Marwick.
“I was very sorry to hear of the death of Gordon and I would like to extend my sympathies to his wife Pam, his four children, his extended family and his many friends and colleagues” said the Shire President.
“The Shire flags on the Administration building are flying at half-mast to mark his passing. May he rest in peace.”
Gordon Marwick was born at the York District Hospital on 14 November 1948. He attended St Patrick’s Convent School in York for his Primary schooling then finished Secondary Education at Aquinas College, Perth. He lived his whole life in York in the family home in Newcastle Street except for the 4 years of attending boarding school.
He was elected to the Shire Council in May 1990 and served as President from 1994 to 2001. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to York, Gordon was granted the title Honorary Freeman of the Shire of York on 4 June 2004.
