Final touches on the Defiance Mill Park Pump Track are scheduled to be completed in the coming days and the date for the official opening has been set.
Despite minor delays with the delivery of materials, which then impacted sub-contractor availability, the completion of this project has gone to plan and at 9.30am on Saturday, 19 February the new facility will be unveiled to the public.
Councillor Kate Hastie, whose portfolio includes sports and recreation, is excited to see the project completed.
“The addition of this track at Defiance Mill Park makes it a great area for individuals and families to enjoy themselves outdoors,” she said.
The track is 160 metres long and 1.2 metres wide and replaces the BMX track and, with the addition of turf, irrigation, bench seating, footpaths, and solar lighting, it significantly adds to the aesthetics and usability of the area.
To help celebrate the completion of the Pump Track, Council is hosting an official opening and is encouraging the community to join in the fun. The opening will include the unveiling of a plaque, morning tea and the chance to win prizes.
“Council has created a colouring in competition with some fabulous prizes to be won, including the major prize of a bike for each category.
“Along with lucky door prizes that include the opportunity to be filmed riding on the new track, with the footage to be used on Council’s social media, the morning is a must attend for all ages,” said Cr Hastie.
More information on the event, including the Colouring In Competition and conditions, can be found on Council’s website at www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au/events. Entries close at 4pm on Thursday, 17 February 2022.
The pump track is a major component of the Mosman Creek Corridor Master Plan and was identified as one of Council’s 10 priority projects to be completed by 2024.
The project was made possible through $965,000 funding from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. This Program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
