Tomorrow night’s ordinary meeting of Fremantle Council will be the council’s first meeting to be live streamed online.
From 6pm tomorrow interested council watchers will be able to view proceedings from the Walyalup Civic Centre by clicking on the fremantle.wa.gov.au/council-meetings-live-streaming page on the City’s website.
The live stream of the meeting will also be available on the City of Fremantle YouTube channel.
Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the live streaming of meetings would make the work of the council more open and accessible to residents and ratepayers.
“Local government works best when we have engaged and well-informed constituents making their voices heard and participating in the decision-making process,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
“The live streaming of meetings will make it a lot easier for more people to follow the proceedings, especially in light of capacity restrictions due to COVID-19.
“From tomorrow, we’ll be live streaming all council and committee meetings that are open to the public.
“We’ll also post the recordings of the meetings on our website so people will be able to review the proceedings at a later date.
“Fremantle has always prided itself on being an open and transparent local government, and that will only be enhanced by the live streaming of our meetings.”
