Middlemount residents are encouraged to take their fitness in stride and become a jog-gernaut in a free 10-week program.

Keep the good times jogging in the Move It NQ program as the free initiative will take participants through their paces with drills and exercises.

The North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF) program’s aim is to keep residents jogging for longer or perhaps, for the first time.

Middlemount-based Isaac Regional Councillor Jane Pickels said the program, to be run by LiveFit Academy, is for every body shape, size and ability.

“You don’t need any jogging or exercise experience to take part,” Cr Pickels, who is a NQSF board member, said.

“Move It NQ has become a leader in driving health-related outcomes across regional areas in Queensland.

“Jogging is a perfect workout that has proven to be advantageous in the longer run. It has stood the test of time and has ensured overall well-being. The Isaac region is about supporting healthier and active lifestyles.

“Council would like to thank the North Queensland Sports Foundation and the North Queensland Primary Health Network for funding and supporting this program.”

NQSF program coordinator Bella Hickson said the participation in regular physical activity improves mental health and social well-being.

“Sport and active recreation programs boost local economies, fosters community pride and creates positive health behaviours and social inclusion,” Ms Hickson said.

“Move It NQ’s coordinated approach to community health and wellbeing across North Queensland has a positive impact on the health of our regions, and we are thrilled once again to work with Isaac Regional Council.”

LiveFit Academy personal trainer Tegan Parker said the 10-week program will begin from Wednesday, 2 March 2022.

“I will tailor the program to your fitness-level, experience and personal jogging goals – this program is literally for anyone willing to give it a go in a safe and inclusive environment,” Ms Parker said.

“At the end of the program celebrate your progress with a little friendly competition with prizes to be won.”

The free program will run every Wednesday at the Middlemount Sportsground from 6.45pm to 7.30pm between Wednesday, 2 March 2022 and Wednesday, 4 May 2022. Participants must be over 14 years old to register with those under the age of 18 required to have parental or guardian permission.
