Tourist numbers are predicted to be on the rise in the Charters Towers Region with last year’s annual tourism statistics showing the months of June/July to be the peak tourism period for the region.

As the busy period approaches, visitors are being encouraged to put the historic town of Ravenswood on their trip list.

Located approximately an hour from Charters Towers, Townsville and the Burdekin Falls Dam, overnight stays are a great option to explore all the town has to offer with the option to stay a little longer at no expense is now on offer explains Cr Julie Mathews.

“Council is calling for expressions of interest for the position of a camp host to manage the Ravenswood Showgrounds.

There is no minimum period required however applicants committing to longer periods of time will be looked upon favourably”, says Cr Mathews.

It is a perfect way to experience our region, meet fellow travellers and get to know a few of our local characters, says Cr Mathews.

The volunteer position comes with a free powered site for the duration of the Camp Host’s stay “allowing for the successful applicant to further explore the town and immerse themselves in the local community” says Cr Mathews.

More information on the role can be found here.

“Considered a must-see heritage listed town, Ravenswood offers a glimpse to a life from a bygone era.

“The historic buildings and sites, extensive relics from the mining boom, along with a unique landscape that includes a 300 million year old white quartz outcrop, make Ravenswood a memorable visit for all,” Cr Mathews said.

Whether you’re planning a trip to Ravenswood for recreational purposes or looking to apply for the Camp Host position, enthusiastic locals are waiting to give you a warm welcome explains Cr Mathews.

Council has recently made it easier for visitors to visit the town with bookings for Ravenswood showgrounds now available online.

“Bookings for Ravenswood Showgrounds are advised to be made prior to arrival due to telecommunications not being reliable in the area” says Cr Mathews.

Visitors can book their site in advance at the Showgrounds at www.visitcharterstowers.com.au/ravenswood-showgrounds.
