Thank you to the Lithgow City Council staff who have again responded to the impacts of flooding across the city. Council crews were on the ground managing road closures, responding to water and sewer interruptions and supporting emergency services, as severe weather has hit again and again. Council’s resources have been significantly stretched responding to numerous callouts and emergencies. Thankfully we have had a bit of sunshine at the end of this week to enjoy.
International Women’s Day events were held on Tuesday 8th March across our LGA. Lithgow Council held a fantastic event at Eskbank House which was great. Thank you to Ella Zorz, Emily Seliscar, Rachel Nichols and Glenda Phipps for giving their time and sharing with the group, their personal experiences. I also attended the wonderful Quota Club event for International Women’s Day. These events help to reinforce Lithgow’s reputation as place of fairness and equity for all.
The Gang Gang Gallery also hosted two tremendous exhibitions. I attended the exhibition for Local artist Katlyn Grahame on Thursday and then on Sunday official opened the exhibition for three visiting artists which showcased their art work with porcelain and other fascinating elements.
Sonia Cox from the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program organised the Bushfire Murals at the Portland Foundations showcasing works that had great emotion and were visually satisfying. These were produced by local residents from Glen Alice, Glen Davis, Capertee, Wolgan, Running Stream and Portland.
I also recognise, celebrate and thank the organisers of the Lithgow Show Society for their continued efforts in bringing the Show each year. The Lithgow Show is on this Friday evening and Saturday with lots of activities to enjoy and things to see. I look forward to meeting the community there.
