World TB Day is held each year on 24 March and aims to build public awareness and international unity to end tuberculosis.
Light up Red for Tuberculosis (TB) is a global campaign held to show solidarity and commemorate those who lose their lives to TB each year. World TB Day is recognised by lighting up buildings red, which is why the Leven River bridge lights will shine red on Thursday 24 March.
TB is a preventable bacterial infection which despite being curable, remains a destructive epidemic in much of the world. Sadly, three million people worldwide fall ill with TB every year and do not receive adequate treatment.
