Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has partnered with Land for Wildlife South East Queensland to relaunch the local Land for Wildlife (LFW) program.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said the collaboration was welcome news to residents who previously enjoyed the benefits of the membership.

“Previous Land for Wildlife members have voiced the need for the program to be reinstated, so we’re pleased to step in and manage it from now,” Cr McMahon said.

“TRC is joining LFWSEQ as an affiliate council, so we will be funding and overseeing the local LFW program with an external provider engaged to conduct property assessments, site visits and workshops.

“The local LFW program was most recently managed by Southern Queensland Landscapes, but it has been some years since landowners could receive private property protection support through the Land for Wildlife program.

“Our Region is home to beautiful, diverse open spaces, so seeing the program reinstated is a great outcome to help protect our natural environment for generations to come.

“Land for Wildlife is a voluntary program that provides one-on-one support to landholders to help them responsibly manage wildlife habitats on private properties.

“By becoming a member, landholders can learn about native plants, animals and ecosystems and receive advice on managing weeds and pest animals effectively.

“Everyone has a role to play in caring for our land and protecting its future.

“It’s completely free to become a member, so I encourage everyone who meets the eligibility requirements to consider taking part.

“We’re asking previous LFW members to re-enrol by completing a quick and easy online registration form.

“Memberships won’t be extended to new participants until July 1; however, landholders can express their interest in joining the program via the website.”
