Lithgow City Council and NSWHealth have removed the Boil Water Alert for Lithgow
Due to recent conditions, including excessive rainfall and highly turbid water in the Farmer’s Creek catchment, Council and NSWHealth placed a Boil Water alert over the city of Lithgow until it was proven that the potentially out of spec water was removed. Today Council and NSWHealth are happy to report this has occurred and the Boil Water Alert has been removed.
The issues experienced last week that caused the unsafe water being produced have lessened. This has been a collaborative effort between the Council, WaterNSW, NSW Health and the Department of Planning and Environment to improve water treatment and supply. Council continues to be supplied by the WaterNSW Fish river scheme as the Farmer’s Creek Dam continues to have highly turbid water.
Council would like to remind customers to be mindful of their water usage going forward. Where some taps in the home or business have not been used since the boil water has been in place, residents should run their taps that have not been used for one to two minutes to bring new water through the internal system prior to consumption or for food preparation.
Council would like to thank the community and residents for their patience and understanding through this period as staff across Council, NSWHealth, WaterNSW and Department of Planning and Environment worked tirelessly and collaboratively to rectify the issues with the water system.
