Roads update – 28 March 2022

Heavy rainfall is expected throughout the Kyogle Local Government Area (LGA) overnight and all residents are urged to be cautious when driving.

The predicted rain may result in flooding, causing further damage to the road and bridge network and exacerbate existing issues.

Please take care and remember, do not drive or walk through flood water.

In a heavy storm on Friday, temporary repairs to Barkers Bridge on Williams Road were damaged and the bridge had to be closed.

Access to residents is still available via northern end of Williams Road or Link Road depending on your location. Council intends to undertake repairs next week.

Lions Road is down to one lane near the Border Loop after rain at the weekend worsened an existing landslip.

The bridge crew is expected to be working on the damaged Capeen Creek Road bridge tomorrow, weather permitting.

The damaged bridge has been isolating residents at the top end of Capeen Creek since the February 28 flood. Council hopes to have the damaged bridge open to traffic by Wednesday (weather permitting). The repairs to the bridge have been complicated by two load-limited bridges which stopped Council from getting heavy equipment to the site to repair the structure. Council had to put in place a side track around one of the bridges and repair the other, before the work crew could get to the third bridge.

Other roads that remain closed that have detours in place are:

• Lillian Rock Road (detour is expected to be in place long term)

• Geneva Street, Kyogle (detour is expected to be in place long term)

The weather prevented Council from working on the Cawongla Range landslip on Kyogle Road today, which meant the road stayed open all day. A decision will be made early tomorrow on whether work will restart in the morning. Council will advise the community via Facebook as early as possible.

Summerland Way is restricted to one lane of traffic at Burnetts. The single lane closure will be in place for some time.

The Bruxner Highway continues to be restricted to one lane at two locations west of Mummulgum. Landslips have closed one lane of the highway on the Mallanganee Range and near Rogers Road east of Tabulam. Both lane closures are expected to remain in place for some time.
