Interruption to Service Water Supply from Oberon Dam

29 March, 2022

WaterNSW have advised that they are unable to supply water from their Fish River Water Supply due to a break in a water main between Oberon Dam and the Duckmaloi Water Treatment Plant. Some areas may be effected with the outage.

WaterNSW are undertaking emergency repairs on the main that services their water treatment plant and are hopeful the supply will be returned in the next few days following restarting of the plant and recharging the lines.

Residents may experience a reduction in water pressure or no water for a period.

Typical operations are that WaterNSW supplies treated water to the areas outside of Lithgow including Rydal, Wallerawang, Portland, Lidsdale, Cullen Bullen, Glen Davis and Marangaroo, Council typically supplies treated water to the Lithgow city.

Council are now supplying the full local government area and would like to advise residents to be mindful of water usage so as not to put unnecessary strain on the water system.

The council and WaterNSW undertook to minimise the period of disruption.

A council spokesperson said, “Upon return to normal service, residents may experience dirty water for a period. Council will endeavour to minimise this by flushing the mains. Before using the water for domestic purposes, residents are advised to run the first tap that services their property to ensure the water is clean and any dirt released into the system has been flushed before running internal taps. If you continue to experience issues of dirty water, please contact Council.”

The Council apologised and undertook that the service will be returned as soon as possible.
