Driving into Blackwater has never looked so good, with Central Highlands Regional Council’s recent Memorial Garden upgrades creating a green space for both locals and travellers to enjoy.
A perfect spot for family picnics or stretching your legs after a long commute, the park has been fitted with a flat grassed area and cemented undercover tables.
Council plans to install interpretive signage that will detail the importance of the Memorial Garden site, the history of Blackwater and fun facts about the area by June 2022.
“With the location and facilities available in Blackwater, it is an ideal stop for those touring our region,” said Mayor Kerry Hayes.
“These beautification works are something to show off, and I hope tourists and locals enjoy the new facilities and learn a little about the town while they are at Memorial Garden.”
These improvements form stage one of ongoing beautification works in Blackwater.
“Memorial Garden is a great start to a year of work council has planned to uplift the green spaces across town,” said General Manager Communities, John McDougall.
“We are currently working with a community group to flesh out plans for a garden space between the tennis courts and old pool.”
“Planning is also underway for the large empty land leading down to the Blackwater International Coal Centre (BICC).”
Keep an eye out for further beautification works coming to Blackwater over the next 12 months.
