This Anzac Day Western Downs communities will gather to honour the Australian and New Zealand men and women who have sacrificed to defend our nation’s values and freedom.
Western Downs Regional Council, in partnership with dedicated local RSL sub-branches and community groups, will deliver commemoration services across the Western Downs on Monday 25 April.
Mayor Paul McVeigh said commemorating the sacrifices made during war and peacetime was very important, and invited residents and visitors to come together and take part in Anzac Day services happening across our region.
“Anzac Day services are an opportunity to pay our respects and show our appreciation for the service and sacrifices our fellow Australians have made and show our support to our communities and the people within them that have had family members serve our beautiful country,” Cr McVeigh said.
“These services are a sacred part of our national identity, and residents will have the opportunity to pay their respects by laying a wreath at any of the many commemorative services being delivered by our hard working local RSL sub-branches.
“We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful country, so taking this one day to step back and pay tribute is something we can do as a community to thank those who have helped ensure Australia remains the wonderful, free land that we all love.
“Council is proud to support all of the local RSL sub-branches and community groups who help bring these services to towns across the Western Downs every year, and we thank them for generously giving their time to help plan and coordinate our Anzac Day services again this year.”
