Presented by performance collective Everybody NOW! in partnership with Western Downs Regional Council, The Empire Theatre, Playing Queensland Fund and Regional Arts Queensland, the show is for everyone from the young to the young at heart.
Everybody NOW! is looking for light-footed locals to be part of the fun and are calling on everybody who loves to dance, has danced, or has stories of dance to get involved. With previous performers ranging in age from 3 to 93, all styles of dance are embraced and supported by a live band, charming emcee and the cheers and adulation of the local community.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said that The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair is a continuation of a long tradition of dance in the Western Downs.
“Part theatre performance, part dance night, The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair is a travelling immersive celebration of dance magic that celebrates local dance culture and history,” Cr Maguire said.
“Country-dances were once at the heart of the social scene in our rural towns. They were a chance to express yourself, let your hair down and connect with your friends and community. The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair brings together the best of old-time dances with the thrill of modern expression.
“It’s also fantastic to be able to bring such an exciting event to one of our region’s vibrant small towns. On the Western Downs we know that it’s the people that make it. The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair is a chance to show that our community spirit is alive and well, and that we’re ready to kick up the dust again!”
Having previously toured everywhere from Whittlesea to Woodford, The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair has received rave reviews from attendees and community participants alike.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to perform the dance style that we love so much in front of an audience. It was a wonderful bonding experience for our group to all work together towards a performance that we could be proud of. “We were all a bit disappointed when it was all over,” Woodford season participant and Kilcoy Ballroom Dance Group member Rebecca said.
The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair is not just a demonstration of dance through the ages, it’s a tribute to the social and cultural impact of dance and a highly entertaining night of fun for the whole community, with prizes, supper, Belle of the Ball Award, and of course, a meat tray.
