Council has welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment of $77.5 million to develop a business case in support of Stage 2 of the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line, linking Glenfield to the Western Sydney International (Nancy Bird Walton) Airport.
Mayor George Greiss said the commitment in last week’s federal budget was an important step in delivering a key connection between Campbelltown and the airport.
“A metro connection to Glenfield would ensure our community has access to a fast, reliable and accessible service to a 24-hour international airport, the surrounding economic infrastructure and associated jobs,” Cr Greiss said.
“Glenfield would become Sydney’s most connected place, with a direct line to the Western Sydney Airport adding to existing connections to the Campbelltown City Centre, Parramatta, Sydney CBD, Sydney Airport Southern Highlands and Canberra,” he said.
Cr Greiss said he hoped to see the business case completed in time to immediately continue work from the Stage 1 northern connection.
“The timing of this business case means that work to build the line could continue onto Stage 2 following the planned completion of Stage 1 in 2026,” Cr Greiss said.
