8 April, 2022
As of the 1 April 2022 the bushfire danger period has concluded. This offers the opportunity for open burning. Residents are required however to gain approval to do so from Lithgow Council.
“It is important before lighting your fire that you have familiarised yourself with the expected weather conditions. Once your fire is alight be prepared and alert at all times and never leave a fire burning unattended” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham.
Open Burning approval is required from 1 April to 30 September. Residents are advised that approvals may take up to 7 days for the Council to be process. Outside of these times (October-March) is bush fire season and all burning requires approval from the Rural Fire Service (RFS).
Residents are also required to contact RFS and all adjoining landowners and inform them of their intention to burn. There are some exceptions to the burning controls with further information available on Lithgow Council’s website http://council.lithgow.com/open-burn-policy/ or by contacting Council’s Customer Service Centre on 6354 9999.
