Young people in the Central Highlands now have easier access to free, confidential health services with Emerald headspace officially opening this week.
The Australian Government’s headspace network offers services across four key areas – mental health, related physical health, social and vocational support, and alcohol and other drug use.
Emerald headspace has been operating since January and in that time has helped 53 people.
Hayley Mattson-Finger, Manager of Children, Youth and Families at Anglicare CQ, expressed her gratitude for the community’s involvement and support throughout the development and launch of headspace in Emerald.
‘A huge thank you to Anglicare CQ, CQ Health, Central Highlands Regional Council, PCYC and all the other stakeholders that have been on this journey with us to bring Emerald headspace to life,’ she said.
‘We’ve been really lucky to have so many community services be so supportive throughout the process.
‘Council’s $35,000 yearly contribution allows us to expand our community and youth engagement initiatives across the region.
‘The official opening is a way to say thank you to our community, stakeholders and young people.
‘Without this support, Emerald headspace would not have been possible.’
Mayor Kerry Hayes is proud of the result and excited to attend the official opening tomorrow.
‘Given the pressures faced by young people today, the availability of early intervention services is much needed in the region,’ Mayor Hayes said.
‘That’s why council support the important work of headspace and local services like Anglicare CQ.’
The opening will be held this Friday 8 April from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm, forming part of Central Highlands Youth Week celebrations.
Community members are invited to come along and enjoy a range of stalls, live music, food, face painting and other free activities, including the Mr Whippy ice cream van, Wandering Bean coffee van and a photo booth.
The opening will end with a free viewing of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore at Emerald Cinema beginning from 7.00 pm.
Emerald headspace is open Monday to Friday and can be contacted by emailing [email protected] or by phoning 1800 950 722.
