Council is encouraging residents to immerse themselves in an evening of old time and modern dance floor magic on Saturday 28th May 2022, which will be part theatre performance, part ‘get up and dance’.

Presented by performance collective Everybody NOW! in partnership with Western Downs Regional Council, and The Empire Theatre, this affair is sure to be a thrilling night enjoyed by all.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said this exciting event was a chance to breathe new life into the region’s long tradition of small hall dances.

“Attending a country dance was once a highlight of the social calendar which brought people from across the region together,” Cr Maguire said.

They were a chance to gather with your nearest and dearest to enjoy a night of dance and community in our fantastic halls, and The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair will offer the best of these old-time dances with the thrill of modern expression.

“Council is proud to be supporting such a thrilling event that truly brings us together as community to have a rocking good time, and celebrate that in the Western Downs, it’s the people that make it!

“This event is not one to miss. Get in the groove and get your family and friends together for a night of nights, as the Warra Hall comes alive to the jives of local dancers and the jazz of a live band, all brought together by a charming emcee.”

Having previously toured everywhere from Whittlesea to Woodford, the event has received many positive reviews. Past participants have described The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair as being storytelling, dance and community entertainment at its best, with many commenting that they did not know what to expect but were left amazed and delighted as the night unfolded.

The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair is not just a demonstration of dance through the ages, it’s an immersive tribute to the social and cultural impact of dance and a highly entertaining night of fun for the whole community, with prizes, supper, Belle of the Ball Award, and of course, a meat tray.

To make sure that everyone has the chance to dance the night away, free buses to and from the event will be available from Dalby, Miles/Chinchilla, Jandowae and Tara

Tickets to attend The Inaugural Annual Dance Affair can be purchased at https://iada-wdrc.eventbrite.com.au for $10pp and include supper. Drinks will also be available for purchase separately.
