Back again in 2022, the Healthy Active Highlanders program is a free 8-week initiative encouraging anyone over the age of 14 to come and try a range of fitness activities.
The Central Highlands Regional Council program will kick off on 25 April 2022, with qualified local instructors conducting sessions in Blackwater, Capella, Emerald, Rolleston, Sapphire and Springsure.
Kelly Corbishley from Yoga with Kelly in Sapphire is eager to get her classes started.
‘Healthy Active Highlanders is a lovely initiative that brings an opportunity to the community to get out of the house, meet new people and try new class styles run by local trainers.
‘Eight weeks of activity is also a fantastic way to build up a habit and commitment to a regular practice.’
Mayor Kerry Hayes said the program was designed to provide enjoyable, accessible and affordable activities for residents of all ages and stages.
‘You might be totally new to exercise and have never done a workout in your life, or maybe you’re a regular gym-goer and just looking to try something new,’ he said.
‘Whatever your situation, this program is all about giving it a go in a fun, no-frills, no-obligation environment.’
There is no booking required, but participants will need to bring a water bottle and towel, wear comfortable clothing and sensible footwear.
There will also be a QR code to scan and register before beginning each class.
This year’s instructors are:
Ashleigh Kavanagh – Body Combat & Core
Jacki Wright – Pilates
Kelly Corbishley – Yoga
Lockie Wills – Strength & Conditioning
Louise Nolan – Balance & Boxing
Patricia Marshall – Boxing
Phillipa Comino – Yoga
