Upgrade works to Princess Avenue and Crichton Road in Emerald are now complete

The first two roads in Council’s 8-year Better Local Roads – Sealing the Hills Program are now complete, with Princess Avenue and Crichton Road in Emerald now sealed!

These previously unsealed roads now boast brand-new pavement construction, kerb channel construction, traffic calming devices, upgraded drainage, new signage, and line-marking.

Council’s Better Local Roads – Sealing the Hills program will see upgrades to 164 prioritised roads across Cardinia Shire, including the sealing of 109 kms of unsealed roads.

The two roads are also part of the Sealing the Hills project, which was co-funded by Cardinia Shire Council in partnership with landowners via a Special Charge Scheme, alongside $150 million from the Australian Government.

“Cardinia Shire Council is pleased to have been able to deliver this upgrade project in collaboration with the Australian Government and provide our local community with safer, more efficient roads that reduce accidents,” Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield said.

“We know our community wants to see our unsealed road network modernised and we are committed to achieving this. We are working together with other levels of government, developers, and landowners through programs like these to provide a safer and more convenient road network across our shire.”

“The Princess Avenue and Crichton Road upgrades will improve safety for local residents and road users, including improved footpath accessibility, easier access to private properties and safer public access to Emerald Museum and Nobelius Heritage Park,” added Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield.

Federal Member for Latrobe, The Honourable Jason Wood MP said of the completed works, “these previously unsealed roads are key connection points for other sealed roads in the area that are now able to more effectively connect our community and improve the travel experience for all road-users.”

“I thank Cardinia Shire Council for working with me to ensure people get home sooner and safer”, he said.
