Residents across the Toowoomba region can expect their water notices from this Friday 6 May with the recent significant wet weather slightly delaying their release.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has poured additional resources into reading all 65,000 water meters across the region after recent wet weather impacted staff accessing areas and meters filled with water and soil debris.
TRC Finance and Business Strategy Committee Portfolio Leader Councillor Kerry Shine said while the water notices were being issued slightly later in comparison to the usual timing, the notices are being issued within Council’s adopted schedule being October/November and April/May as detailed in Council’s budget adoption resolution. “TRC uses four water meter readers to read all 65,000 water meters across the region twice annually.
“This most recent period was impacted by the significant rainfall and flooding issues from October 2021 until March 2022, with some areas inaccessible for a period of time and many water meter boxes filling up with water and soil debris at various stages.
“These impacts made the water meter reading process slower than usual but in a proactive step, TRC used additional staff resources from within Council to complete the water meter readings in a reasonable timeframe.
“Council appreciates some residents will have been expecting their water notices by now and we are pleased to advise they will hit email inboxes this week and letterboxes early next week,” Cr Shine said.
With an issue date of 6 May, water rates notices will be due 7 June. Residents are reminded of TRC’s online payment option available at https://www.tr.qld.gov.au/payments-self-service-laws/payments-rates
