City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis has welcomed federal election commitments from both major parties to partially fund much-needed upgrades to Hill Road, the spine of Wentworth Point.
Cr Davis said the promised $8.5 million in federal funding would help Council begin initial works outlined in its Hill Road Masterplan, including measures to address flooding issues and safety for drivers and pedestrians.
“Wentworth Point has grown and changed significantly in recent years, and Hill Road is a vital piece of infrastructure that needs to be upgraded to meet the needs of the local community,” Cr Davis said.
“Through our Masterplan, Council wants to make sure Hill Road is not only safer and more functional for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, but is greener, sustainable, and welcoming to support future growth in Wentworth Point and surrounding areas.”
Pending approvals and funding, Council is aiming to complete detailed design work and cost estimates for traffic lights at the intersection of Bennelong Parkway and Hill Road by mid-year.
Council is also in the process of gathering flood and topographical information and will undertake a Flood Study covering Hill Road between Holker Street and the wharf and immediate surrounds. It is anticipated this work will be completed by early 2023.
“With both major parties now committing partial funding for some of these much-needed works, Council will seek to accelerate these upgrades where practical,” Cr Davis said.
