On Monday, 9 May 2022 the Charters Towers Local Disaster Management Group moved to LEAN FORWARD status due to the weather event that the Charters Towers Region is currently experiencing.

All agencies are in a state of readiness for the heavy rain that is currently falling within the Region and across the central and northern interior of Queensland today.  Further heavy rain is expected into Wednesday.

Sandbags are available for the community by contacting the State Emergency Service on 132500.

Chair of the LDMG and Mayor of the Charters Towers Regional Council, Frank Beveridge, stated that even though the rain is a welcome relief to the Region, it is important for locals and visitors alike to be vigilant during this time and not take unnecessary risks.

“Please stay out of swollen gullies, creeks, rivers and gutters and definitely do not camp near creeks and rivers… If it is flooded, forget it”, urges Mayor Beveridge.
