Summary of Council Decisions: 9 May 2022 Ordinary Council Meeting

Miss the Council Meeting on Monday night?  Here is a summary of the discussions (Date: 9 May 2022):

Council acknowledged the request from the Australian Navy for the HMAS Parramatta to conduct a Freedom of Entry March in September 2022 and requested a report be provided to Council to determine resourcing and budgetary implications for the Freedom of Entry March to take place (Item 8.1).   Council acknowledged that National Volunteer Week is being held from 16 to 22 May with the theme “Better Together”, and thanked all those who volunteer for the City of Parramatta Council for their tremendous efforts and selfless service, making our City a better place (Item 8.2).   Council agreed to respond to the NSW State Government announcement for a planned trial of shared electric scooters with Council’s interest to participate, noting that expressions of interest would only commit Council’s consideration to participate in the trial at this stage (Item 8.3).   Council noted its existing resolutions regarding advocacy for the delivery of Peninsula Park, Wentworth Point and agreed to write to the NSW Minister for Transport, NSW Minister for Planning and local state Member of Parliament requesting an urgent meeting to discuss the delivery of Peninsula Park (Item 8.4).   Council noted that the official launch of The Salvation Army’s 2022 Western Sydney Red Shield Appeal occurred on Friday, 6 May 2022 and agreed to donate $1,000 to the Appeal (Item 8.5).   Council received and noted the information report on the CBD Revitalisation Grant Program offered by Investment NSW’s (Item 12.1).   Council approved the draft Community Strategic Plan 2038 for public exhibition for 28 days from 10 May 2022 to 7 June 2022 inclusive, and upgraded its low emissions reduction target from 60% to 70% emissions reduction by 2038 (Item 13.1).   Council considered a report on the status of two Planning Proposals (Item 13.2) and agreed: to note that the applicant withdrew the planning proposal for Western Sydney University – Parramatta North Campus and take no further action; and to not proceed with the planning proposal at 1-21 Hope Street, 27-43 Oak Street and 126-130 James Ruse Drive, Rosehill.   Council agreed to defer consideration of the naming of the Parramatta’s New Aquatic Facility until the actions arising out of a recent Councillor Workshop are complete (Item 13.3).   Council approved the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan for public exhibition for a period of four weeks (Item 13.4).   Council approved the final Sportsground Strategy and Action Plan, agreed that an Allocation Policy be developed within the next 12 months and that Councillors be provided with annual progress updates on the status of the Strategy (Item 13.5).   The Notice of Motion on Council’s Events Budget (deferred from the Council meeting of 7 February 2022) was withdrawn at the meeting (Item 14.1).   The Notice of Motion on the CBD Lighting Project (deferred from the Council meeting of 7 February 2022) was withdrawn at the meeting (Item 14.2).   The Notice of Motion on the CBD Planning Proposal was withdrawn prior to the Council Meeting (Item 14.3).   Councillors authorised the CEO to remove any Federal Election campaign material on Council or State Government assets (Matter of Urgency).   Councillors requested an urgent investigation into the status of the flood retention grates located at Darling Mills Creek (Matter of Urgency).   Council approved the continuation of the existing licensee for Shop 6/4-14 Hunter Street, Parramatta for a period of 12 months (Item 16.1).   Council approved the appointment of four (4) preferred proponents for the establishment of a panel of six (6) categories for the Disposal of Waste and Recycling Materials tender as outlined in the report (Item 16.2).   Council approved the concept proposal for the Riverside Theatre Redevelopment Project and the allocation of $136m for the project (Item 16.3).
