Charters Towers has been announced as a Top Tourism Town (population over 5,000) finalist in the 2022 Queensland Top Tourism Town Awards.

Presented by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC), the Awards program recognises and celebrates Queensland’s outstanding regional destinations, honouring communities across the State who demonstrate a commitment to visitor excellence.

Winners will be decided by the public, Council is encouraging everyone to vote for Charters Towers; one of 7 regional Queensland towns vying for the prize in this category.

Councillor Julie Mathews, whose portfolio includes Tourism, said it was a massive accolade for Charters Towers to make finalist in this prestigious Award program.

“From a shortlist of 23 exceptional destinations, it is an honour that Charters Towers has been recognised as a finalist for top tourism town.

“I want to congratulate local tourism operators, businesses and the Visitor Information Centre for working together to bring our community to excellence and delivering world-class visitor experiences.

“I’d also like to encourage locals to share the voting link with family and friends who love spending time in Charters Towers,” Cr Mathews said.

Voting closes 23 May 2022, with every voter going in the draw to win a $2,000 Apollo motorhome holiday.
