The way in which the Toowoomba Region grows for future generations is back in the spotlight this week with further public consultation now open on the Toowoomba Region Futures project.

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is asking for further feedback from the community on two key elements of Toowoomba Region Futures, the Toowoomba Region Planning Scheme and the Toowoomba Region Growth Plan.

Consultation on the growth plan and planning scheme re-opened today and the community is being asked to have their say on the future growth and vision for the region.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio said this week’s re-launch of the Toowoomba Futures consultation was an important step forward in shaping the diverse Region’s future growth and development.

“TRC’s strategic planning will set the policy settings to shape how and where our Region grows, where the major employment areas will be and which areas we must preserve for agriculture, open space and cultural significance.

“We are planning for the city, towns and rural areas in which our children and grandchildren will build their lives.

“We’re expecting 55,000 new residents in our Region in the next 30 years and Toowoomba Region Futures is our plan to ensure our enviable lifestyle is there to enjoy for future generations to come,” Mayor Antonio said.

TRC Planning and Development Committee Chair Councillor Megan O’Hara Sullivan said the Toowoomba Region has a wealth of opportunities and explained why the growth plan and planning scheme were so important to the Region’s future.

“This program of work will deliver a new Toowoomba Planning Scheme, an Infrastructure Plan and a growth plan which together will provide a roadmap for managing urban growth throughout the Region.

“Last year we kicked off with engagement on key topics, including Greening Toowoomba, design (Talking Towns) and growth, which has helped us develop the draft Strategic Framework.

“Now we’re asking you to help ‘Shape our Future’ by giving your feedback on the draft Strategic Framework and two potential options for urban growth.

“The Strategic Framework is the first part of the new planning scheme to be drafted and paints the big-picture vision for future development in the Region.

“Getting the Strategic Framework right will help make sure development decisions down the track support our community’s vision for the future.

“We asked for feedback late last year on the two growth options, and we’re giving you another chance to have your say because it’s important we make the right choice for our Region,” Cr O’Hara Sullivan said.

From now until Sunday 19 June, 2022 residents will have three chances every week to win a $200 gift card simply by leaving their details. Have your say at Toowoomba Region Futures | Have Your Say (tr.qld.gov.au)
