Fremantle Ambassadors are ‘Better Together’

Our Fremantle Ambassadors were reunited this week for the first time since March 2020. It was perfect timing to coincide with National Volunteering Week (16–22 May).

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, and this year’s theme ‘Better Together’ explores how volunteering brings people together, builds communities and creates a better society for everyone.

Since March 2020, the Fremantle Visitor Centre’s volunteer program has been scaled back to eight roving volunteers on Thursdays and Fridays, and about 15 volunteers during special events.

With international and interstate visitors steadily rising (international visitation numbers more than tripled in April compared to March!), we’re so excited to welcome back our volunteers to assist with day-to-day functions at the Visitor Centre.

A lot has changed in Freo over the last few years, so our volunteers are familiarising themselves with the incredible new offerings around town to prepare them for a return to regular shifts and the arrival of cruise ships.

For their first excursion, the group completed a FOMO Discovery Trail including an introduction to FUNLAB by Precinct Manager Lesley Thomson.

The volunteer ambassadors can help with accommodation and tour information, free brochures and maps, guides on events and what’s on, free Wi-Fi and bike hire, general tourism information and advice, accessibility information and information for corporate and conference enquiries.
