Charters Towers Regional Council is inviting artists in the region to create a local mixed media art exhibition as part of Queensland Day celebrations.

The Exhibition is themed ‘150 Years: Faces & Places of Charters Towers’ and will include 2D and 3D styles.

Art mediums can include painting, drawing, carving, casting, modelling, construction, collages, and found objects.

Cr Sonia Bennetto, whose portfolio includes Arts and Culture, said that the exhibition is a great opportunity for the art community to showcase their work.

“Council is very excited to host a local mixed media art exhibition to celebrate 150 years of Charters Towers.

“We’re looking for artwork that embraces the theme and highlights the unique people and places of our great town.

“I want to encourage our very talented artists to take part in this exhibition and submit their work. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an experienced artist or still in primary school, we would like to see a large variety of work from our community.

“A ‘People’s Choice’ prize of $250 will be awarded to the piece which receives the most votes during the Queensland Day celebrations,” said Cr Bennetto

Artworks will be on display during the Queensland Day – Celebrating Faces & Places of Charters Towers Street Party on 5 June.

The Exhibition will be free for the community to view at the World Theatre from 4 June until 18 June 2022.
