Queensland Day celebrations will kick off next weekend, with council joining forces with Emerald parkrun to mark the state’s birthday and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Queensland Day parkrun will take place in Emerald on Saturday 4 June and will be the heart of Central Highlands Regional Council’s Queensland Day celebrations.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said council was pleased to be partnering with Emerald parkrun for the event.
‘Parkrun has quickly become part of the fabric of our community and it reflects many of the things that make Queensland such a great place to live,’ Mayor Hayes said.
‘Our active lifestyles, the sunshine, our sense of community and giving things a go, and a healthy dose of friendly competition.
‘Come on down bright and early wearing your best maroon outfit to start your weekend right.’
The Queensland Day parkrun will kick off at 7.00 am at the Emerald Botanic Gardens McIndoe Park entrance with a BBQ breakfast available at the finish line.
As of 6 June, Queensland marks 163 years as a separate colony from New South Wales. Queensland Day parkrun is part of the 2022 Queensland Government’s Queensland Day celebrations.
