Roads update – 30 May 2022

Work on the Forest Road landslip will start tomorrow. Local contractors have been engaged to clear and repair the slip. The job is expected to take a couple of weeks to complete. The road will remain closed during the remediation work.

Once the Forest Road landslip has been repaired, Council will turn its attentions to repairs on Main Creek Road. The closure of Forest Road has made it difficult to get materials and machinery to Main Creek Road to fix the severely damaged road.

Pothole patching crews have had a slow start to the week due to a delay in the delivery of coldmix from the batching plant. The Bonalbo pothole patching crews will return to filling potholes from Sandilands along the Clarence Way to Bonalbo tomorrow. Council hopes to reach Bonalbo by the end of the week.

A new pothole patching machine will be delivered to Council tomorrow. The new machine will be based at Bonalbo. Council’s existing pothole patching machine, based in Kyogle, is currently out of action undergoing repairs. Road crews manually patching potholes are  working on Kyogle Road and around the township today. Tomorrow they will head out Omagh Road and Edenvile Road.

Another Council road crew is fixing drainage issues on the badly scoured hill section of Theresa Creek Road near Dugans Road turnoff, with the aim of repairing the road next week.  Work to repair post flood drainage issues on Hillyards Road will be completed this week, with the crew then moving on to Boorabee Creek Road to clear landslips and address drainage issues. Drainage repairs on Station Road will be restarted on Wednesday.

Council is also working on the Lillian Rock Road landslip site today to make the bypass suitable for the school bus.

The Lions Road is expected to re-open to LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY mid-week. There will be a two-tonne limit for vehicles using Lions Road beyond the Simes Road intersection. All motorists are reminded that there has been a significant amount of damage to the road due to landslips and when it does re-open it will be restricted to one lane of traffic in multiple locations. Council strongly urges motorist to continue using the Summerland Way route when travelling to and from Queensland.
