Councillors this week approved a recommendation to appoint Alan Clark as Acting CEO for a period of up to 12 months while a new CEO is recruited.
Mr Clark, a former Director Infrastructure Services at the Rural City of Wangaratta, will step into the position from Monday, 23 May.
Alpine Shire Mayor Sarah Nicholas said Mr Bird will finish his role on Friday, 20 May after five years at the helm.
“We are pleased to welcome Alan to the team and are confident he will provide positive and stable leadership until Charlie’s replacement is appointed,” she said.
“We will miss Charlie’s interest, knowledge and commitment to the Alpine Shire, and wish him the all the best as he embarks on this new chapter.
“A recruitment consultant has been engaged to undertake the search for a new CEO.”
The recruitment process is expected to take around six months.
In the meantime Council is gearing up for the adoption of a 2021/2022 Budget that would see the delivery of $17 million in exciting capital works projects.
Cr Nicholas said staff continue to deliver on Council’s commitment to support Alpine communities to grow and thrive in a safe, sustainable environment.
“We’re looking forward to this new financial year,” she said.
“As we move through the serious impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re optimistic about the future.
“After the past few years of uncertainty it is terrific to now be able to work with our communities to rebuild, revitalise and grow.”
