Forecasts by the Bureau of Meteorology of a week of heavy rain and possible local flooding has forced Redland City Council to postpone the Birkdale Community Precinct Information Days which were scheduled for this Friday and Saturday.

The free Information Days offer an opportunity for people to tour the precinct, experience interactive exhibits, talk to the project team, view historical displays and take walking tours.

The Information Days are also a chance for the community to become better informed first-hand and to participate in the community consultation process which started on April 30 and will continue until June 6 through the project’s Your Say web site.

The Information Days have been rescheduled to Friday May 27 and Saturday May 28 from 10am to 4pm on both days.

Redland City Council Mayor Karen Williams said the open days were an opportunity to walk on the precinct that has been locked up for decades as well as see the plans to create an exciting intergenerational precinct.

“This is the biggest and most exciting project of its kind for our city and these open days are a chance for the community to be part of it,” Cr Williams said.

“This precinct will include Redlands Coast’s first public water lagoon and other exciting projects that have been made possible because of the Redlands Whitewater Centre, which will be a host venue during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“There will also be seven Hubs with the following themes: Cultural, Innovation, Willards Farm (Food), Communications, Entertainment, Recreation and Adventure Sports, and Conservation.”

Cr Williams said the Draft BCP Master Plan was a vision of what would become one of the largest community spaces in South-East Queensland and one which would unfold over the next two decades.
