According to Lifeline, 75% of those who take their own life are male.
To help prevent this horrifying statistic from continuing, Central Highlands Regional Council is partnering with Emerald Men’s Shed to host Men’s Health Night.
‘Men’s Health Night will highlight the value of friendship, encouraging local blokes to come together,’ said Emerald Men’s Shed President Ross Grierson.
‘This opportunity to come together will focus on sharing life experiences and dealing with adversities shoulder to shoulder.
‘Men’s Shed is a place where we can develop friendships, find a purpose and take away boredom and loneliness.’
Men’s Health Night is one of many health and wellness events coming to the Central Highlands in the next few months.
‘The health of our region is of the utmost importance to myself and the other councillors,’ said Mayor Kerry Hayes.
‘It is with organisations such as Emerald Men’s Shed we are able to come together not only during these important awareness weeks but all year round to look after ourselves and our mates.’
Central Highlands men are encouraged to come along and hear from Olympian swimmer Duncan Armstrong.
Health checks, giveaways, a zero-alcohol bar, auction of high-quality sports memorabilia and dinner from Fair Dinkum Meats will be happening throughout the night.
The fun will kick off at 5.30 pm on Friday 17 June 2022 at McIndoe Function Centre in Emerald and entry is a gold coin donation.
RSVP to Emerald Men’s Shed by calling 0427 072 809 by Monday 13 June 2022.
