Willies Creek Royles Road upgrades finished ahead of schedule

Freight operators and the wider community are reaping the benefits of $3.75 million worth of upgrades to Willies Creek Royles Road, a primary route to the Capricorn Highway and major hubs and ports.
As of March 2022, 6 kilometres of the road have received drainage upgrades, pavement construction, bitumen sealings and signage.
Central Highlands Regional Council worked closely with contractor Durack Civil Pty Ltd to deliver the project, which was jointly funded by the Australian Government under the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative and council’s capital works program.
‘This is a major development for our region, and it has been very exciting to see this project finished,’ said Mayor Kerry Hayes.
‘The upgrade will further enhance access to the highly productive Big Bend agricultural area and improve movements for livestock owners.’
While the scheduled Willies Creek Royles Road project is now completed, you may still see roadwork along the road as maintenance from recent wet weather continues.
‘No project is without it’s challenges and wet weather has caused damage along the upgraded road,’ said General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities, Jason Hoolihan.
‘Council is dedicated to maintaining the safety provided by these upgrades and so we’re making these works a high priority.’
