Flags Fly in the Council Chamber

Today was a very important day for our First Nations People with the placement of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag in the Moree Council Chamber, set in place by Cr Mekayla Cochrane and Damien Eade.

We would like to thank Barbara Cutmore for the Welcome to Country, Paul Spearim for the smoking ceremony, the didgeridoo players, Craig Whitfield, Wayne Swan, Nathaniel McIntosh, and Connor Johnson for his moving piece written for Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week read in the Council Chamber.

Moree Local Aboriginal Land Council, Lloyd Munro Snr remarked that it is a special day, a lot of decisions are made in this Chamber and to have these two flags sitting beside these flags [sic] when they make changes, to look at these flags.

Thank you to all who were in attendance.
