Update – Moree Town Centre Beautification Project

Council has completed the next round of concept trials for the Moree Town Centre Beautification project. The intersection of Balo and Gwydir Streets

The blisters trialled on the intersection of Balo and Gwydir Street have been endorsed for traffic calming purposes and improved pedestrian safety, with construction to be completed in the coming weeks.

The blisters that have been endorsed and approved by the Local Traffic Committee and Council will replicate the shape of the kerb in front of the Shell service station, further deterring heavy vehicles from travelling into Moree’s CBD.

Heber Street

In conjunction with the trialling of the blisters another main street improvement is planned with the olive tree-lined centre island concept on Heber Street, (between Balo Street and Roslyn Lane) to discourage oversized off-route vehicles from entering the CBD, improving the area’s aesthetics and to ameliorate urban heat island affects on our hot summer days.

Council endorsed at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Thursday 2 June, the Pedestrian Safety Upgrade on Heber Street with the installation of a median strip island, west of the traffic lights.

The new centre island will mirror the existing island on the Eastern side of the traffic lights intersection.

During the construction of the new centre island there will be a temporary closure of Heber Street (between Balo Street and Roslyn Lane) from Tuesday, 14 June 2022, reopening Thursday, 23 June 2022, during this time there will be no disruption to pedestrian access on the footpaths.

Thank you to everyone who submitted their submissions for the Moree Town Centre Beautification project. The Moree Town Centre Beautification project has been made possible thanks to grants from Phase Two of the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program and the NSW Government’s Your High Street program from which these projects will be 100% funded to improve our community amenities and increase pedestrian safety in Moree’s CBD.
