Yass Court House improvements
Many of you will know that I have been concerned about the neglect of our iconic Yass Court House for some time now. Last week, I received welcomed news from Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and Attorney General of NSW Mark Speakman of a $240,000 investment to maintain and improve the building over the next two years.
Stage one is expected to be delivered prior to 30 June and will include:
Landscaping, including trimming of trees and shrubs and pressure cleaning of pathways and stairs; Cleaning and remediation of fencing; Painting of priority internal areas; and Replacement of floor coverings.Stage two will be delivered in the 2022-23 financial year, and will include:
All external painting (full site); and Remaining internal painting.Community roadshow
Council's Executive Management Team and Councillors have visited Yass, Bowning, Sutton, Gundaroo, Murrumbateman and Binalong in the past month to present the Draft Integrated Planning and Reporting Documents. Thank you to everyone who attended. This was a great opportunity for Council to present its upcoming projects, and to receive feedback from the community.
Don't forget, you can still have your say on these documents until 5:00 pm on Monday, 6 June. View the documents and make a submission on Council's website.
More local youth events
Riverbank Park was absolutely alive with music, families, activities and food on Saturday, 21 May. It was fantastic to see the community reconnecting after such a long period without gatherings and events, and to see an event celebrating and engaging our local youth. Organisers estimated 1000 people attended throughout the day - a great result.
Council is eager to create more opportunities for local young people. Our new Youth Council is due to meet for the first time next Thursday and there are already discussions about holding Alive in the Park again in summer.
Blueprint Resilience
Thank you to everyone who attended the Resilience Blueprint Framework Workshop run in collaboration with the Canberra Region Joint Organisation last Tuesday. The purpose of the workshop was to help us better prepare for future disasters including floods, fires and droughts as a community. If you couldn't attend the workshop but would like to have a say, the survey is open until the end of June.
Yass Public School
Work to construct the dedicated bus lane at Yass Public School is nearing completion and has been well received by all users, so far. This is a fantastic outcome for students whose travel to and from school is now significantly safer.
Please note that work across the road to level the entry into the Yass Pool/Dog Park carpark begins today and there will be no access for about a week. Drivers can alternatively use Victoria Park and walk down.
Main Street Masterplan
Last Thursday night, consultants sala4D presented the concept Yass Main Street Masterplan and sketches following extensive consultations with the community in April and May. The consultants will now develop detailed designs using feedback on the concept Masterplan and sketches. Another community session will take place in July before the draft Yass Main Street Masterplan is presented to Councillors. More details on this soon…
