Recent Blackwater Showgrounds infrastructure upgrades have allowed the Coal Capital Speedway Club to increase their membership base and the quality of racing and events held at the track.
Alongside local business Enwise Electrical and Refrigeration, council worked to upgrade electrical services in the rodeo and speedway areas of the showgrounds.
Nathan Pershouse, President of the Coal Capital Speedway Club, said he was grateful for the work undertaken over the last few months to improve the facility’s infrastructure.
‘Over the past couple of years, we have had a hard time with power due to termites coming along and taking down the power poles,’ he said.
‘Running a speedway can be quite a technical affair, with digital lap timing and car transponders involved, so these infrastructure upgrades have helped our speedway club tremendously.
‘We now have 24 separate power outlets in our pit area, and the lighting is so bright that our performance on the track has improved with increased speeds no longer being an issue.
‘A special thanks to the council and Enwise Electrical and Refrigeration for all the assistance. We look forward to working on more projects for the club in the future.’
General Manager Communities John McDougall commented on the much-needed showgrounds upgrades.
‘Council was really proud to deliver this project as part of our annual capital works program, ensuring the grounds were up to standard and safe for the community to utilise,’ he said.
‘Facilities like our showgrounds are integral to the fabric of our regional towns, attracting large events and providing a space for our sport and recreation communities to grow and thrive.’
The Blackwater Showgrounds received a range of asset upgrades, including double solar lights and poles, a showbox, metal light poles and switchboards, and new underground cabling for the speedway and the rodeo arenas.
‘The whole site has now been upgraded, with the new infrastructure ensuring the site is functional well into the future,’ Mr McDougall said.
