Fremantle Festival: 10 Nights in Port returns this winter from 11–21 August at the start of the Djilba Nyoongar season.
Over 10 wintry evenings, we invite you to immerse yourself in a raft of contemporary music, outdoor installations, screen exhibitions, eco fashion, projections and live performances created by some of Fremantle's and WA's most prized creatives.
Winter is the perfect season to discover the city’s hidden nooks and crannies, to settle in, rummage up some heartening food, sip steaming tonics and swap tales and melodies by the hearth. It’s also a time for the adventurous to head outdoors, be in the elements and embrace the wilds of the winter weather.
City of Fremantle Festivals Coordinator Sarah Wilkinson said this year’s Fremantle Festival: 10 Nights in Port program celebrated our community banding together.
“As we evolve out of this pandemic, we celebrate the joy of coming together live; and we delve deeper into our local place, our environments, our stories and community,” Sarah said.
“The festival program creates opportunities of connectivity, it has been shaped by the voices, ideas, skills and knowledge of our creative and cultural leaders.
“It will embrace new technologies that have kept us together in these disruptive times and merge our new creative worlds.
“A passionate collection of artists, cultural leaders and community have joined us in this year’s festival; they will lead and create experiences for us from the warmth of indoor spaces to our local parks and coastal spaces.
“They will share stories of country, personal journeys, collective experiences.”
The Fremantle Town Hall will once again become the festival’s celebrated cultural performance venue—hosting a program of live performances where each night a different story unfolds.
From rocking raw music sets to a cultural bush tucker quiz; electronic experiments to a choral of voices; projections to cabaret—there’s so much to experience over 10 nights.
And of course, the festival program will head outdoors across several sites in Fremantle.
A number of site-specific events set in the natural environment will explore place and celebrate the spirit of open fires.
Artists and community will create safe and inviting installations to entice conversations, create winter warmth and provide an opportunity of connection.
“We look forward to being with you on the streets, in the venues, in the parks, by the coast and, of course, by the fires,” Sarah said.
