Fremantle’s popular Freo Builds Trail is returning these July school holidays, but this time with a twist.
Some of Perth’s best LEGO® builders will bring famous Fremantle icons to life, straight from the imaginations of six local primary school children in what must be Perth's biggest LEGO® giveaway.
The Freo Builds Trail will play a key role in Fremantle’s vibrant winter school holiday schedule.
It will guide families around Fremantle to discover the creative and colourful ways LEGO® builders have transformed the children’s imaginative ideas. Ticket holders can complete the trail to collect a free LEGO® toy and go into a draw to win great prizes.
From spirit-driven lighthouses with legs, a slowly turning tourist wheel on a snail and whale transporting an entire city, visitors will never have seen Fremantle’s famous icons like this before.
The Freo Builds Trail will run from Monday 4 July until Sunday 17 July. It’s a free event, but registrations are essential.

Earlier this year the City of Fremantle ran a competition in which local school children were asked to take Fremantle icons like the port cranes and the Dingo Flour mill and reimagine them in a creative way.
Some of Perth’s best LEGO® builders were then tasked with transforming six design ideas into three dimensional LEGO® artworks.
Visitors who complete the Freo Builds Trail can vote for their favourite build.
The student whose build attracts the most votes will win The Ultimate Kids’ Excursion to Fremantle for their whole class, including a visit to Fremantle Prison, lunch at Cicerello’s, Nyoongar storytelling at the Walyalup Civic Centre and vouchers for Toyworld Fremantle.
People who vote will also be in the running for great prizes, including a Fremantle Prison family pass, an HMAS Ovens Submarine Tour family pass and vouchers for Toyworld Fremantle, Cicerello’s, Twin Fin Fremantle, Fremantle Markets and FOMO.
Plus, every child who participates in the trail will receive a free LEGO® toy – There are 11,000 toys to give away this year.
The Freo Builds Trail is proudly presented by the City of Fremantle, Toyworld Fremantle, FOMO, Fishing Boat Harbour, WA Maritime Museum, Fremantle Prison and Fremantle Markets.
In addition to the Freo Builds Trail, the heart of Fremantle Walyalup Koort will be full of activity throughout the July school holidays, with giant outdoor games, DJs, a trackless train, face painting, giant chalks and a visit from the Toyworld mascot.
A ‘creation station’ at Walyalup Koort will provide a space for children to take part in imaginative activities, including workshops by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Michael Alvares and FunLab.
Fremantle Library will also host a variety of student-focused activities, including nature play, gamers workshops and a visit from SciTech.
Families who visit Fremantle during the school holidays will also be able to take part in other events and activities run by local businesses, and take advantage of special offers for food, attractions and more.
