Under the Tasmanian Planning Scheme – Central Coast, all residential areas of Turners Beach are now zoned General Residential. The La Mar café site and ‘old service station’ site remain Local Business Zone, and the football ground, community hall and bowls club are zoned Recreation.
Land that is north of the Western Rail Line is also subject to the Turners Beach Specific Area Plan (Turners Beach SAP) that forms part of the Tasmanian Planning Scheme – Central Coast.
The Turners Beach SAP sets out the types of land uses that can occur in Turners Beach and the standards that may apply to use and development. Where there is any inconsistency, the Turners Beach SAP overrides the General Residential Zone standards for the use of land and development.
The current Turners Beach SAP addresses matters such as the types of business activities and other uses allowed, building height and building envelope, landscaping on private land, the clearance of vegetation on public land and where beach and river access can occur.
Following a community survey and community information session held in late 2021, the Council’s planning staff have undertaken a review of the Turners Beach SAP.
Another community information session is to be held Thursday 21 July 2022 at the Turners Beach Community Hall from 3pm until 7pm. Planning staff would like to discuss proposed changes to the SAP, and the process for amending this aspect of the Tasmanian Planning Scheme – Central Coast.
While a short introduction will be provided at 3pm, members of the public are welcome to drop in at any time during this four-hour period.
Please email the Council’s friendly Planning team via [email protected] to register your interest in attending the information session, or to discuss alternative ways of providing feedback. The Planning team can also be contacted by phone via (03) 6429 8900.
