Residents who applied for Edward River Council’s annual tree planting subsidy will be able to collect their seedlings next Thursday 16 June between 9:30 and 10:30am.
Aimed at increasing native vegetation in the Edward River Council region, local ratepayers on properties one hectare and over were encouraged to apply.
“This year we had the support of Ricegrowers Association through Local Land Services and Landcare NSW who contributed $1500 to the program,” Edward River Council mayor Peta Betts said.
“Their support allowed us to offer optional cardboard tree guards for just 30 cents each, rather than the normal 55 cents each.”
Varieties include red gum, wattle, bottlebrush, melaleucas, eucalyptus and more.
Cr. Betts said the annual scheme was aimed at assisting local property owners to not only help landscape their homes but also to help the environment.
Residents who applied are asked to collect their seedlings from the Augustus Street entrance of the Edward River Council depot in North Deniliquin, and not to use the Wanderer Street entrance which is closed to the public.
“Over the years it has been fantastic to see so many local residents take up this offer,” Cr. Betts said.
“It is a great initiative and one Council is committed to supporting every year.”
