Get the Facts – Redlands Coast dwelling targets

Following recent media (Quest online) claims about Council not updating its housing strategy and not achieving its dwelling targets, Council would like to clarify:

The State Government’s own Land Supply Development Monitoring report has confirmed that Redland City has sufficient residential land supply to meet the dwelling benchmarks set out in ShapingSEQ (the Regional Plan), including the minimum 15 year supply and to 2041. Council is also achieving all its dwelling targets in terms of supply and demand and housing mix and is focused on working with the State to deliver the provision of the key region-shaping infrastructure identified in Shaping SEQ and the State Infrastructure Plan, including the Eastern Busway extension and higher frequency rail services to Cleveland as well as upgrades to key State controlled roads. This will be of significant benefit to existing Redland residents and businesses but also support the take up of planned dwelling supply for new housing in Redland’s key centres, such as Capalaba and Cleveland. In relation to community engagement for the Southern Thornlands Potential Future Growth Area, Council believes this land is strategically important for the entire city, so a city-wide consultation was held, in which landowners in the area were able to provide comment. As there had long been much debate about land use recommendations, Council wanted to hear feedback from the entire Redlands Coast community on the proposed balance of future economic and residential use of the land. The majority of responses were from Thornlands residents. The consultation report is publicly available on Council’s Your Say site.
