A new parklet in the heart of the Albury CBD will start welcoming its first visitors this weekend.
Titled ‘Pods of Play’, the parklet will be located on Dean St out the front of ‘Hapi’ and ‘Zen X’ restaurants for a trial period of eight months. As part of the trial, residents, visitors and business owners are invited to provide their feedback on the parklets via an online survey.
With all abilities access and lighting for the evening hours, the new space provides a space to stop, sit, and rest while taking in the activities of the street. The area will also be surrounded by plants and trees, creating a beautiful green oasis within the streetscape.
The parklet was commissioned by AlburyCity, thanks to a grant from the NSW Government's Streets as Shared Spaces Program. The structure was designed by landscape architects TCL, and constructed by local manufacturer Seasons Furniture.
Talented local artist, Tamara Murray, has also been involved in the project, creating a bespoke design that will wrap the safety barriers surrounding the parklet.
With free activities planned over the trial period, Mayor Kylie King encouraged the community to come down and check it out.
"This is an exciting opportunity to create a unique outdoor experience that we haven't seen before in our city," Mayor King said.
"Come down to Dean Street and give the parklet a try for yourself, we'd love to hear what you think."
