As part of the Penguin Foreshore Remediation and Upgrade project, the Council is working with TasRail to construct two new railway pedestrian crossings that will provide access from Main Road, Penguin to Watcombe Beach. The removal of some sections of encroaching vegetation within the rail corridor is necessary to provide safe sight distances for the pedestrian crossings. TasRail are scheduled to commence works on Wednesday 13 July 2022.
TasRail will also take this opportunity to improve drainage adjacent to the railway track in order to ensure the integrity of the rail line in this area. The extent of the works has been determined through a risk assessment process, with the removal of vegetation limited as much as possible.
TasRail is working co-operatively with the Council to re-establish vegetation in these areas, which form part of the Perry Ling Gardens Master Plan.
