New standpipe for the Gemfields

Posted on July 14, 2022

Central Highlands Regional Council continues upgrades to the region’s water infrastructure with the installation of a new standpipe in The Gemfields.

Located approximately 5 minutes’ drive from both Rubyvale and Sapphire, the new standpipe is conveniently positioned beside the local dumping station and has plenty of space for parking.

Gemfields residents and visitors will have the added convenience of three payment methods when using the standpipe including cash, credit card, and the Avdata system.

‘To allow residents a transition period, both the new Gemfields standpipe and old Sapphire standpipe will be available for the next three months,’ said General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities Jason Hoolihan.

‘The Sapphire standpipe has reached its end of life with leaks causing water wastage and will be decommissioned on Monday 31 October 2022.

‘Opening the new Gemfields standpipe has been a long time coming and this is a great start to the financial year for the water and utilities team.’

The standpipe is the first of many water infrastructure projects happening in the Gemfields.

As part of the 2022-23 captial projects budget, the Sapphire dosing system and UV disinfection system will be upgraded along with the replacement of the Anakie bore water tank.
