Take a step back in time and let the historical residents of Charters Towers tell you a few stories from the past at ‘Spirits of the Night’.
This theatrical performance is a dramatised evening walk-through at the Charters Towers Pioneer Cemetery and will highlight the lives of those who helped forge this town’s character.
Audience members will be greeted by ‘residents’ (an actor) who will share stories of those who are buried beneath the crumbling headstones.
The night will be filled with historical facts and the audience will be entertained by local performers as they re-enact stories and events.
Cr Sonia Bennetto, whose portfolio includes arts and culture said this event is a great way to celebrate 150 years of Charters Towers and the lives of those who came before us.
“Spirits of the Night is an exciting performance, retelling the stories of those who are buried at the Pioneer Cemetery.
“Local performers will enchant you with music and song and bring to life nine stories ….
“The evening will highlight the tragedies, mysteries, loves, losses, and triumphs of pioneers, locals, and traditional landowners,” said Cr Bennetto.
‘Spirits of the Night’ will run from Friday, 5 August until Sunday, 7 August 2022, starting at 6:30pm.
