Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is calling for expressions of interest for the new in-house casual and temporary employment pool (TEMPO Pool).
TRC Finance and Business Strategy Committee Chair Cr Geoff McDonald said the TEMPO program would focus on upskilling locals and getting them back into the workforce.
“This is a new innovative program for Council which will help address the number of vacancies within Council’s workforce,” Cr McDonald said.
“In the current market there is a lot of competition for jobs and we need to ensure we’re doing everything we can to attract potential suitors to our organisation so we can continue delivering quality outcomes for our community.
“We are looking for people for both our indoor and outdoor temporary employment pools. The ideal candidate should have some background in the relevant field, be highly motivated, readily available and have a willingness to learn.
“Council will provide training to develop or upgrade skills to increase employability with our organisation.
“At its core, this is a community outreach program. We understand our Region demographics and know there are a lot of people who are struggling to find work and remain disadvantaged.
“We particularly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with a disability, migrants, mature age jobseekers, school leavers, people re-entering the workforce after a lengthy absence and veterans to apply.”
TRC Finance and Business Strategy Portfolio Leader Cr Kerry Shine said as one of the biggest employers in the Region, the program was an opportunity for local job seekers to get a foot in the door.
“TEMPO isn’t designed to train people from scratch. Applicants should have some background in the relevant area and a positive attitude is a must,” Cr Shine said.
“Participants who successfully complete the training and demonstrate high performance throughout the program may have the opportunity to join Council’s pool of casual and temporary employees.
“We see this as a great way to help our community get back into the workforce after a particularly challenging couple of years.”
